Application Process
You should apply as early as possible for fall admission. Applications for fall 2010 admission may be submitted beginning September 1, 2009. We will review applications beginning September 15, 2009. Although we do not have a deadline, we recommend that you apply by January 1. Applicants for Art-Graphic Design and Art-Interior Design are required to submit a portfolio by January 8, 2010.
How to Apply
We make it convenient and easy to apply:
- Apply Online. We encourage you to apply online. Our online application is secure and easy to use. It allows you to save your work and come back later. Applying online also provides you with immediate notification that your application has been received.
- Download a Paper Application. If you prefer to apply on paper, feel free to download and print a copy of our paper application (pdf, 506K).

- Request a Paper Application. If you would like us to mail you an application, please e-mail your request to admissions@uwstout.edu or call 1-800-447-8688.
Application Materials
A complete application consists of the following:
- Application for Admission.
- Application Fee. The nonrefundable $44 application fee must accompany your application. Online applicants can pay the fee by credit card at the time of submission. Paper applicants and online applicants who did not submit credit card payment at the time of submission can pay by check or money order (payable to the UW-Stout). Do not send cash.
- Official Transcripts. We require transcripts for all high school and college-level work. Official transcripts should be sent directly by the school to the Admissions Office.
- Test Scores. Scores from either the ACT or the SAT can be sent from the testing agency or you can make a copy of your student report and mail it to us.
Submitting Your Application
To ensure proper and efficient processing of your application, keep these tips in mind:
- Bring all your application materials to your high school counselor for submission. In most cases, your high school will collect your completed application (if applying on paper), application fee and send them to us along with your official transcript.
- Request that your ACT and/or SAT scores be sent to us.
- Send all materials to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Office of Admissions, 124 Bowman Hall, Menomonie, WI 54751.
Admissions Decisions
We will not review your application until all required materials are received. Review your application materials to ensure you submit a complete application.
We make one of three admission decisions:
- Admit: Congratulations, you’re in!
- Deny: Students who are not competitive for admission.
- Postpone: Some applicants are neither admitted nor denied upon initial review. These students are postponed. Postponed applicants have strong qualifications and the potential for success at UW-Stout. However we would like to review grades from the first semester of your senior year, or review new ACT scores or receive recommendation letters before making an admission decision.
