New Freshman Guidelines
- Academic preparation and success are the primary factors considered for admission to the university. No single factor, attribute, or characteristic will be used to determine admission. Admission will be based on multiple criteria including academic and personal achievements. Nonacademic qualifications can make a good applicant strong however; they will not make an academically weak applicant admissible.
New freshman are likely to be admitted if they rank in the top 50% of their graduating class (a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater will only be used if your high school does not rank); OR receive a composite ACT score of 22 or greater (or SAT equivalent).
The following majors are competitive and require further academic achievement:
Manufacturing Engineering and Applied Science applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Rank in the top 40 percent of your class with a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent); or have a minimum ACT score of 22 (or SAT equivalent) with a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent); or earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (only for high schools that do not rank) with a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent).
Applied Mathematics and Computer Science applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Rank in the top 50 percent of your class (or for high schools that do not rank, earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale); and have a minimum ACT composite score of 22 (or SAT equivalent); and have a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent).
Art-Graphic Design and Art-Interior Design applicants must also submit a portfolio and essay to be reviewed by a committee of Art and Design department faculty, who will determine admission into the major. Students must submit their portfolio and essay by January 8, 2010 and will have a decision in early February 2010.
