A complete application must include: Admissions Application, $35 application fee, official high school transcripts, and a copy of your ACT/SAT scores. The review process will begin once we have all four documents.
New Freshman Guidelines
1. New freshman are likely to be admitted if they rank in the top 50% of their graduating class (a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater will only be used if your high school does not rank); OR receive a composite ACT score of 22 or greater (or SAT equivalent). The following majors are competitive and require further academic achievement:
Manufacturing Engineering and Applied Science applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Rank in the top 40 percent of your class with a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent); or have a minimum ACT score of 22 (or SAT equivalent) with a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent); or earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (only for high schools that do not rank) with a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent). Applied Mathematics and Computer Science applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Rank in the top 50 percent of your class (or for high schools that do not rank, earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale); and have a minimum ACT composite score of 22 (or SAT equivalent); and have a minimum ACT math score of 22 (or SAT equivalent). Art-Graphic Design and Art-Interior Design applicants must also submit a portfolio and essay to be reviewed by a committee of Art and Design department faculty, who will determine admission into the major. Students must submit their portfolio and essay by January 4, 2008 and will have a decision in early February 2008. 2. Meet the high school unit requirements:
NOTE: Foreign Language is not required for admission; however, two years of the same language with a grade of “C” or better meets the UW-Stout global perspective requirement. Some high school courses may not satisfy university admission requirements for preparatory academic coursework. For information on applicability of high school courses call the Admissions Office at 715/232-1411 or 800/44-STOUT. You may declare a major at the time of application, but qualified students without declared majors are also accepted. You should apply as early as possible (recommended by January 1) for fall admission. Applications for fall 2008 admission may be submitted beginning September 15, 2007. We will review applications beginning September 15, 2007. Applicants for Art-Graphic Design and Art-Interior Design will be required to submit a portfolio. Transfer Students must forward official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions to the Admissions Office. In order to be admitted in good standing, you must have a grade point average of 2.5 or greater. Education major applicants must have a grade point average of 2.75 or greater.
