English and Math Placement
New freshmen entering the University of Wisconsin-Stout for fall 2008 DO NOT need to take the UW-System Placement exam. You will be placed into math and English based on your ACT scores. If students have submitted more than one set of scores, placement will be based on the highest subscore of all scores received. If you have retaken the ACT since you were admitted and have improved your scores, please mail us (unless they were sent electronically) your updated score report.
Registration for English and Mathematics courses will depend on a student’s ACT results See our Undergraduate Bulletin for descriptions of courses: http://www.uwstout.edu/ugbulletin/

YOUTH OPTIONS OR COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL:
In addition, if you took college credit in either math or English (or any other subject area) while still in high school make sure an official transcript from the post-secondary institution granting the credit is mailed to the UW-Stout Admissions Office to be added to your official record.
Please mail any additional information to:
Office of Admissions; UW-Stout; 124 Bowman Hall; Menomonie, WI 54751.
Transfer students: Registration in any English and/or Mathematics courses you might still require for your major will depend upon credit earned in those subjects at your previous institution. The transfer equivalency report you receive from UW-Stout’s Admissions Office will indicate whether transfer credit has been awarded in English (i.e. ENGL 101) and/or Mathematics (i.e. MATH 110). Note: MATH-xxx represents an undetermined skill level, so cannot be used for registration purposes.
If no transfer credit is awarded in these subjects, we can use your high school ACT test results. Send them to us (Office of Admissions; UW-Stout; 124 Bowman Hall; Menomonie, WI 54751) or check online to see if you’ve already done so (on Access Stout, under Admission & Placement Test Results). If you feel your ACT results would be out-of-date or you never took it, then you will need to take the Wisconsin English and Mathematics Placement Tests (EPT and MPT). See this website for test dates and registration instructions: http://testing.wisc.edu/.
