UW-Stout offers students free music subscription
University of Wisconsin-Stout students now have access to free and legal downloadable music via the music subscription service Ruckus.
The Ruckus library has more than two million songs available for download to student-issued, IBM-compatible computers. For an additional fee, students can purchase Ruckus-to-go, a service that allows them to put downloaded music on some MP3 players (not iPods.)
So far more than 2,700 students have created Ruckus accounts since its availability was announced on Monday, March 19.
Student Tech Fee funds were used to make this legal download option available to students as an alternative to the many illegal file-sharing options on the Internet. Ruckus certifies that all downloads are 100 percent legal, virus-free and spyware-free.
Ruckus also will be available to Apple laptops issued by UW-Stout in fall 2007.
