Golf enterprise management program produces first graduate
Jason Scharping’s graduation Dec. 16 will make him somewhat of a celebrity with the Golf Enterprise Management program at UW-Stout. He is the first graduate of the program and his choice of majors may land him a plum job.
He is considering an offer from Caddie Master Enterprises, a caddie management group for golf courses, to work at the highest-priced new golf course in the country—Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J., just 1,000 yards away from the Statue of Liberty and overlooking the Manhattan skyline. The development of the private golf course cost $140 million. Memberships are by invitation only; initiation fees to play are $400,000 and annual fees are $50,000.
If Scharping accepts the job, he will manage the caddie program for a clientele that includes some of the wealthiest people in the world. His clientele will arrive to the course via private watercraft, high-speed launch service from Manhattan or helicopter to play along one mile of beachfront.
Scharping was a transfer student from Southwest Wisconsin Tech College’s Golf Management program.
